Your Position: Home - Hardware - Applications Of Heavy Weight Drill Pipe
Heavy weight drill pipe (HWDP) is usually run in between the drill collars and the drill pipe in order to prevent fatigue of the drill pipe in the vertical drilling industry.Hebei longway is a professional Heavy Weight Drill Pipe Supplier.Contact us to discuss your requirements.
A Heavy Weight Drill Pipe looks like a normal drill pipe except for an upset centered along the tube which helps to prevent excessive buckling.Heavy weight drill pipe is also utilized in the horizontal directional drilling (HDD) industry for added strength in high stress situations. Heavy weight drill pipe (HWDP) may be used to make the transition between the drill collars and drill pipe. The function of the Heavy weight drill pipe is to provide a flexible transition between the drill collars and the drill pipe.Get a free quotation!
Heavy weight drill pipe has a “center upset”, also known as wear pad, that increases tube life by protecting the tube from wearing on the outer diameter by keeping the tube away from the hole wall. It also reduces hole drag and differential sticking problems. The walls of heavy weight drill pipe are thicker and have longer upsets compared to conventional drill pipe, as well as being stronger with high tensile strength.
Conventional Heavy Weight Drill Pipes come in two configurations, Welded and Integral.
The welded configuration is manufactured by friction welding of extra long tool joints to a thick well tube while the integral configuration is machined from a solid bar of AISI4145H alloy steel.
An additional option is the Heavyweight Spiral Drill Pipe, which has spiral grooves cut into the external surface for reduced differential sticking and improved hole-cleaning.

Heavy Weight Drill Pipe is used as a transitional stiffness section, typically between the stiff and rigid drill collars and the relatively light and flexible drill pipe joints to reduce fatigue failures directly above the bottom hole assembly.
Its wall thickness is up to 3 times that of a similar-sized normal drill pipe to add additional weight to the bit.
HWDP is used most commonly in directional drilling because it bends more easily and helps to control torque and fatigue in high-angle operations.
A. High precision in size and shape
B. Good low temperature toughness
C. Excellent comprehensive mechanical properties
D. High connection strength and sealability
E. Large inside diameter of tool joint
F. High torque resistance
G. High fatigue strength and long fatigue life
Hebei longway also provide drill collar and heavy weight drill pipes, products can be customized as to your requirements for the thickness, length, connection type, etc. For detailed information, please feel free to contact us!

Threaded Bar vs. Smooth Bar: Which is Better for Reinforcing Concrete?
Threaded bars, also known as threaded rebar or deformed bars, are steel bars with ridges or deformations along their length. These ridges create a thread-like pattern, which helps the bar to grip the concrete more tightly. The purpose of these ridges is to increase the bonding between the steel bar and the concrete, providing greater strength and stability.
